When does the South African fuel price change?
The DMRE adjusts petrol, diesel, paraffin and LPG prices on the first Wednesday of every month. The next adjustment is scheduled for Wednesday, 3 June 2026 — that's in 7 days from today.
Why does South Africa use Brent crude as a benchmark?
South Africa imports the majority of its crude oil and refined fuels from regions whose pricing references Brent (the North Sea, West Africa and the Middle East). The DMRE's Basic Fuel Price formula therefore tracks Brent-related refined product prices rather than WTI (the US benchmark).
How is the SA pump price calculated?
The retail pump price combines the Basic Fuel Price (the international import-parity cost of refined product), the General Fuel Levy, the Road Accident Fund levy, customs and excise, the slate levy, carbon tax, and wholesale plus retail margins. International Brent prices and the rand/dollar exchange rate are by far the two biggest movers.
